To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, the petition of residents of New South Wales brings to the attention of the House:
• An Ausgrid-approved cable replacement project for Ralston Avenue, Belrose NSW, is being proposed by Ausgrid to replace ageing, fluid-filled underground cables with 26 x aboveground concrete industrial poles. This is in an area where there is only bushlands and underground cables exist.
• After extensive community consultations, the community is requesting the cable replacement be replaced underground, continuing with underground works.
• Poles and wires always have a visual impact on any environment and will always be more vulnerable to ever-increasing threats of bushfire and violent storms from climate warming and change.
The undersigned petitioners ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to:
• support replacing the cables underground instead of aboveground poles, and to advise the community of this change.
