To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
This Petition from the citizens of the Dubbo Electorate and residents of Western NSW brings to the attention of the House that on 18 December 2024, the NSW Labor Government announced that the proposed Sports Hub and PCYC project was not viable.
This is despite the proponent, PCYC NSW, putting forward a variation request that would allow the facility to be built within the allocated funding.
The former Liberal and Nationals Government allocated a total of $48.6 million to make this project a reality. The decision by the Labor Government to cancel the highly anticipated sports hub is an act of disappointment on the community and residents across Western NSW.
We the undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to:
1. Guarantee the $48.6 million in funding allocated to the Dubbo Sports Hub and PCYC project.
2. Agree to the variation request submitted by the proponent of the project.
3. Recognise the societal impacts of removing such a project, that would house diversionary programs for at-risk youth.
4. Commit to the construction of the facility to increase participation in sports, allowing Dubbo to host representative indoor sporting competitions and remove the financial burdens on families.
