Toxic sludge dumping in Newcastle

Petitioner: Mr Giles Martin | Member: Crakanthorp, Tim | No. of Signatories: 14,906 | Date closed: 02/03/2022
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, The Newcastle community says NO to the NSW Liberal and National Government’s plan to dump in Newcastle 12,000 tonnes of toxic sludge from the construction of Sydney’s Northern Beaches Link. Newcastle is not Sydney's dumping ground! We note the toxic sludge contains dangerous chemicals including tributyltin, lead, mercury, silver, zinc, poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and dioxins. Further, we note that the NSW Liberal and National Government failed to consult with the community and community leaders about their secret plan. The Newcastle community demands that the Minister for Transport and Roads and Premier urgently intervene and stop this plan to dump Sydney’s toxic waste in Newcastle.
