Visiting the Legislative Council

Members of the public are welcome to view Question Time and other proceedings in the Legislative Council from our public gallery. The gallery is open when the Legislative Council is sitting. Find details of our planned sitting days on the sitting day calendar​.

During sitting periods, Legislative Council proceedings commence at 12.30pm on a Tuesday and at 10.00am on Wednesday and Thursday. For an indication of what occurs during each sitting day see the Legislative Council sitting pattern​.

Question Time takes place in the Legislative Council​ from 1.30pm on a Tuesday and at 11am on Wednesday and Thursday of a sitting week. 

If you are attending Question Time, please arrive at Parliament 20 minutes before its start time on the day of your visit and make yourself known to a member of staff at the Council front desk. It is a condition of entry to the public galleries that all personal belongings, including mobile phones, must be cloaked. Visitors will undergo addtional security screening on entry to the public galleries.​​​​

Entrance is via the security gate house on Macquarie Street, near the State Library.​

We are committed to ensuring everyone can access Parliament. 

Parliament is fitted with ramp and lift access, signage with raised lettering, induction loops , accessible toilets, parent facilities and accessibility parking.
