Pastoralist. Arrivied in Sydney with family on 23rd January 1825. Worked on fathers stations on Upper Hunter and Liverpool Plains. Purchased freehold blocks on his runs in 1853; visited Britain and Europe 1854 until 1859. Changed from sheep breeding to cattle breeding in the 1860s. Employed Aborigines and Chinese when European workers left for goldrush. Early Member of Australia Club. Founding member of Linnean Society of New South Wales in 1875.
