Petitions

Petitions are a way to raise an issue and request action from Parliament. A petition must be about an issue that the House has power to act on – a state matter involving legislation or government administration. Petitions can relate to issues with wider community impact, or individual grievances, such as the correction of an administrative error.

Petitions can be presented in either House

Petitions are presented by members to the Parliament on most sitting days. In deciding whether to direct your petition to the Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council, consider that you'll need to identify a member of that House to present your petition – ideally a member you believe is aligned with the issue the petition is about. Read about how the Houses deal with petitions, and view open and tabled petitions by following the links below.
