Who is my local member? How can I find their contact information?

Your local member is a member of the Legislative Assembly. Search for your electorate on the NSW Electoral Commission website. Click on your 'state district' when your result appears, scroll to the 'parliamentary representation' information. Then, find your member in the list of Members of the Legislative Assembly

How do I contact the Premier?

Use the contact details on NSW Government website to contact ministers, including the Premier. 

How do I contact my state member or minister? Can NSW Parliament help me arrange a meeting with them?

We cannot advise if members/ministers are in the parliamentary precinct or arrange meetings with them. To request to meet with them, please contact their Electorate office or Ministerial office

What time is Question Time? Should I book a place if I want to watch it in person?

Question Time is at 12pm on Tuesdays and 11am on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you want to watch Question Time in person, please call our team on (02) 9230 2219. Question Time is very busy, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. 

How do I know what will be discussed in the Legislative Assembly today?

On each sitting day, a daily business program is published around an hour before the house starts sitting. This will display each bill that will be discussed and other business of the house. The program can be found in the Daily Business Program.

When is the Legislative Council Question Time?

Question Time takes place at 1:30pm on Tuesdays and 11am on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

How are the members of the Legislative Council elected?

The 42 members of the Legislative Council are elected according to a system of   proportional representation, with the entire State acting as a single electoral district. Periodic Council elections are held at the same time as the general election for the Legislative Assembly, which take place every four years. You can find more information here

When is NSW Parliament sitting?

A sitting day is a day on which one or both Houses of Parliament meet. View the sitting calendar.

Can I visit NSW Parliament House?

Yes, NSW Parliament House is open to the public from 9am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). On sitting days, the Parliament is open from 9am until both houses rise. Entry is free. You may have to buy tickets or register for special exhibitions and events. Find more information to help plan your visit

How can I get to NSW Parliament House?

NSW Parliament House is at 6 Macquarie Street, Sydney. The nearest train stations are Martin Place and St James. The nearest Metro station is Martin Place. There are regular bus services nearby. Find more information to help plan your visit

Can I go on a tour of NSW Parliament House?

There are free guided tours every Monday and on non-sitting Fridays at 1:30pm. When it's the NSW school holidays, tours run every weekday at both 11:30am and 1:30pm. There are no tours on public holidays. Groups smaller than 10 are encouraged to book. Larger groups must book a private tour free of charge. Learn more and book a tour

Can I park at NSW Parliament House?

While public parking is not available, limited accessible parking can be requested (subject to availability). If you hold a Mobility Parking Scheme Permit and are visiting Parliament to take part in committee proceedings, attend an event, or as a guest of a member, please arrange parking ahead of time by contacting the relevant committee, member’s office, or event organiser.

Can I watch Parliament on sitting days?

Yes, on sitting days, visitors are welcome to view proceedings from the public galleries. Please note, it is a condition of entry to the public galleries that all personal belongings, including mobile phones, must be cloaked. Visitors will undergo additional security screening on entry to the public galleries.

What is Hansard and can I view Hansard records online?

Hansard is the written record of debates in Parliament. Transcripts are published in stages as they are prepared and checked for accuracy. Proof (draft) text is published online around three hours after the spoken word, progressively throughout sitting days. The proof version is updated to the final ‘corrected copy’ version within two weeks. You can view and search NSW Parliament Hansard records here

What is a House paper?

House papers summarise the business before each House of the Parliament of NSW. They are prepared by the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly. They include a daily program, minutes/votes, written questions on notice asked by members, and any answers given. Find more information about House papers

How do I find information about or contact committees?

Each committee manages and publishes information about its inquiries, including reports and related documents. The contact details for each committee are listed on their page. Go to the list of all current committees.

What is a bill?

Bills are proposed laws introduced into the NSW Parliament. Go to the list of all bills.

Can I host a function or book an event space at NSW Parliament House?

NSW Parliament House, in the centre of Sydney’s CBD, is perfectly situated for your next conference or event. There are nine unique event spaces in Parliament House, including a stunning auditorium, a large dining room with garden views and a majestic library, which dates back to 1905. Can I access the NSW Parliament Library?

The library is not open to the public – you are welcome to contact the Parliamentary Library team with specific questions via email at DPS.Library@parliament.nsw.gov.au.
