Notes: Case was given no affiliation by the SMH but appeared in the Telegraph as an Opposition candidate.
Source: Totals used taken from Year Book of Australia (1899), totals also used by Hughes and Graham (1975) and matching the total number of votes in the Statistical Register. SMH 4 August 1898, p.6 col.1, had higher totals reported as 'offically declared state of poll' with Case on 168 and Kirkpatrick 276. Official declaration by Returning Officer not located in the Gunnedah Advertiser, but paper reported 4 August, p.2 col.4, the declaration with Case on 133 and Goodwin on 641, and included a table of booth results. However the Advertiser's result do not add up to the margin of victory in the same table, making the Year-Book's totals look more reliable.
