Notes: Clark and Darnley had both been elected as Labor MPs for Balmain in 1891. Clark was listed as a selected Free Trade candidate in the SMH but not the Star. In the general lists of candidates, the SMH called Darnley a Labor candidate, though he is not included in either the Australian Workman or Worker and is listed here as Independent Free Trade in line with papers other than the SMH. The SMH listed Hawthorne as an Independent, but all other papers listed him as a non-selected Free Trade candidate.
