Notes: Nicholson was listed as a selected Free Trade candidate in the SMH on 22 July and was included in George Reid's list of preferred candidates, SMH 27 July. However, for most of this period, Nicholson was elected to the Legislative Assembly as an Independent Labor MP. This was the only election at which he was listed as an official Free Trade candidate, and it may be that Independent Labor is a better classification.
