Notes: Bavister was a sitting MP for Canterbury. In 'Civilising Capitalism', Bede Nairn lists Bavister as one of the re-elected non-solidarity Labor candidates (p120 and footnote). He was endorsed by the Free Trade Committee and shown as a selected Free Trade candidate in both the SMH and Star. He was not listed in the pre-election lists in the Australian Workman, but did appear as an Independent Labor candidate in the post-election issue on 21 July. He was listed as a Labor candidate in The Worker on 30 June but as a modified pledge Labor candidate in the Brisbane Worker 7 July. No selected Protectionist candidate appeared in the SMH lists, while the Star cryptically listed 'left to electors' for this seat. Almost all listings showed Hammond as an Independent, the affiliation adopted here. Hammond received the endorsement of the National Association.
