Site Links
What are all the Links in the Left-hand Column?
Link Groupings
Links are grouped together under headings. The Site Links group includes links to all the overall index pages for the site. The Election Links group has all the index pages for a particular election. There are also three types of Prev/Next links. From Election Index pages you can move to the previous or next election. For any individual district result, you can move to the previous or next district at this election, or the previous or next Contest for this district.

This page provides a list of all candidates contesting the general election, as well as all candidates contesting by-elections in the life of the Parliament. This page is of particular use for 18th Century elections conducted over several weeks, when candidates could contest several districts.
Election Links - Party
Provided for all elections after the formation of political parties (from 1887), this page lists % votes by party for each district at the election. It is provided as a simple summary of contests. Individual electorate results can be linked to from this page.

Prev/Next Election
This link heading appears on all Election Index pages. It provides a cross-link through to the previous and next general elections, avoiding the need to return to any of the overall index pages. The link to the previous and next elections takes you to the relevant Home Page for the election.
Prev/Next District
This link appears on all individual district results pages. It allows you to select the result of the previous or next district contested at this election, without the need to return to the summary pages for this election. The list is in alphabetic order, though by-elections for a district are inserted after the general election result for the district.
Prev/Next Contest
This link appears on all individual district result pages. It allows you to follow the results in an individual electorate from election to election, without the need to return to the Districts Index. Districts are listed in Election order, with by-election results inserted after the result in this district at the previous general election.
Remember to use the browsers 'back' key.
When you use an Internet browsing tool, using the 'back' button on the tool bar is always the quickest way to return to the page you just linked from, and to return to the same position on that page. So for instance, if you are following through a number of districts contested by a particular candidate, the most efficient way to navigate is to click through from the relevant Candidate Index page to the district result, then use the 'back' button to return to the same point in the Candidate Index. This is much more efficient than re-using the 'Candidate Index' link, which required you to re-search for the candidate each time.
