Notes: Caused by the death of sitting Independent MP Rupert Noal Beale. The seat was won by his son Jack Beale. Henry John Bate was the defeated UAP candidate at the 1941 state election. His son Henry Jefferson Percival Bate was an MP at the time of the by-election, serving as MP for Wollondilliy 1938-49.
