National Federal gain from Free Trade

Candidate Party Votes Votes %
Bull, Charles (Defeated) Free Trade 637 35.99

Notes: In the Camden News, Willis describes himself as a Federalist Free Trader and an independent voice for Camden. However, he is clearly not an endorsed candidate of either the Free Trade of National Federation blocs and has been listed as an Independent. He received no party affiliation in the Herald's lists though the Telegraph listed him as a Ministerialist 27 July.
Source: Camden News, 4 August, p.1 col.3, matching total votes in NSW Statistical Register (1898) as well as the results in the Year Book of Australia (1899) and Hughes and Graham (1975). SMH 28 July 1898, p.7 and report p.9 col.6 prints very different results and suggests there are 'six returns to come'.
