Cause Category: Resignation - Other
Notes: Caused by the resignation of Labor MP Michael Knight, who had resigned from the ministry several months earlier. Knight's departure had been just days after presiding over the success of the Sydney Olympics, and followed accusations he had interfered with the granting of an Olympic award to the head of the games organisaing committee. Having reached his political zenith with the games, Knight decided to walk away from politics rather than engage in a public fight over a minor issue.
