A major Coalition dispute was resolved when Schultz resigned from state parliament and was elected MHR for Hume at the October 1998 Federal election. Burrinjuck was left vacant until the state election, when on the new boundaries, the National Party's Katrina Hodgkinson gained this seat for her party after defeating Alby Schultz's wife and Liberal candidate Gloria Schultz.
