Notes: Wollongong had been won in 1984 by Independent MP Frank Arkell. The new boundaries appeared to improve the Labor Party's position, so the seat is shown as being notionally held by Labor. The seat was contested by two sitting MPs, Arkell as sitting Mp for Wollongong, and Laurie Kelly who moved to contest this seat rather than his old seat of Corrimal.
