Notes: Griffith had been the member for Waratah but resigned in 1903 to unsuccessfully contest the Federal election. He had been unable to return to state Parliament because the by-election was held before the Federal election. Williams was the member for Alma and had been elected as an Independent Labor candidate in 1901. While not a selected candidate, the Liberal and Reform Association recommended a vote for him, Daily Telegraph 28 July, p.7.
