Notes: Both Gardiner and Hutchinson were sitting MPs for Forbes. In 'Civilising Capitalism', Bede Nairn lists Gardiner as one of the non-solidarity Labor candidates re-elected (p120 and footnote). He was not listed in Australian Workman, but was listed as a modified pledge Labor candidate in the Brisbane Worker of 7 July. He is not included in the selected lists of Free Trade candidates, but was selected by the more radical Free Trade and Land Reform Association. He was listed as Labor aligned in the SMH and Star, Free Trade Labor in the Telegraph and Free Trade in the Town and Country Journal. He has been listed here as an Independent Labor candidate additional to the Workman's list and in line with the 7 July Worker. Hanny was listed as an official Labor candidate in the Workman but did not appear in the Worker by 7 July. The list of selected Free Trade candidates in the SMH and the Star did not include a candidate for this seat.
