Cause Category: Ministerial by-election
Notes: By-election on the formation of the second Martin ministry. Report of nominations in the Empire refers to E E Darvall as the son of former MP J B Darvall. The report also mentions that a John Heuston was nominated. However the paper reports this as being intended as a 'burlesque on the proceedings', Heuston apparently winning a ten pound bet for nominating.
Source: Report of nominations, SMH 6 February 1866, p.5 col.4-6, with results SMH, 12 February, p.4 col.5 sourced from Maitland Mercury. Another report of nominations, Empire 7 February. P.8 col.1-4. Result in Empire on 9 February p.3 col.1 carry a different total with Darvall polling 140. Maitland Mercury, report of nominations, 6 February, pp.2-3, results 10 February, p.4 col.6 including booths.
