Cause Category: Resignation - Financial difficulties
Notes: A H McCulloch again resigned due to his financial problems. He did attempt to put his name forward again, but clearly he had lost the backing of supporters. The issue of the writ was delayed a day or two by the resignation of the Returning Officer Alban Gee, reportedly because he was intending to contest the seat. In the end, he nominated Buchanan, but later contested as a Protectionist candidate at the 1889 election and a subsequent by-election.
