Miner and union official. Educated at Broken Hill Primary and Broken Hill High School. Studied mine draughting and mining engineering. Worked with North Broken Hill Mining Company from 1936; member of Miners' Union, Broken Hill, senior assistant secretary from 1951 until 1953, secretary from 1954 until 1965, industrial advocate for union and Barrier Industrial Council and delegate to Miners' Federation from 1950 until 1965; life member of Returned Serviceman's League in 1961, president of Broken Hill Branch from 1958 until 1965; trustee of Broken Hill War Memorial; president of Broken Hill Football Association. Recreational interests included sailing, swimming, soccer, football and basketball.
Military Service
Enlisted in Australian Imperial Forces January 1941. Discharged January 1945. Served in Middle East (Tobruk, Syria and El Alamein with 2/48th Australian Infantry Brigade and 9th Division Headquarters).
