ROYALTIES IN THE HUNTER

(1) Last financial year, how much income did the state receive in coal royalties sourced from mining operations in each of the Singleton and Muswellbrook local government areas?

(2) What percentage of the state’s total coal royalty revenue was sourced from each of those mining operations in the local government areas referenced in (1)?

(3) What percentage of the state’s total income was sourced from coal royalties in each of the local government areas referenced in (1)?

(4) Last financial year, how much of the state’s expenditure was directed to the local government areas of Singleton and Muswellbrook, in both bare amount, and as a proportion of the state’s total expenditure?

Answer -

(1) The data reported here is indicative and may be subject to revision. In 2022-23, coal royalties revenue from mining operations in the Singleton local government area (LGA) totalled $1,704 million, and coal royalties revenue from mining operations in the Muswellbrook LGA totalled $984 million.

(2) In 2022-23, 36 per cent of total coal royalties revenue in NSW was received from mining operations in the Singleton LGA, and 21 per cent of total coal royalties revenue in NSW was received from mining operations in the Muswellbrook LGA.

(3) In 2022-23, coal royalties revenue received from mining operations in the Singleton LGA represented around 1.6 per cent of general government sector revenue in NSW, whereas coal royalties revenue received from mining operations in the Muswellbrook LGA represented around 0.9 per cent of general government sector revenue in NSW.
