Answer -
POWERHOUSE MUSEUM

(1) The care and preservation of the Powerhouse collection is the highest priority of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Trust, its leadership and staff. These obligations are outlined in the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Act 1945.

When there are any works planned on the building specialists conduct risks assessments which then inform the development of detailed plans for collection management, conservation, transport and storage of collection items. This planning is undertaken for capital works as well as maintenance works where there may be an impact in certain items. In order to protect the collection, it may be determined through the detailed conservation plans that items may be temporarily decanted to a suitable international standard collection storage facilities.

In the case of the proposed renewal of the Powerhouse Ultimo, the detailed plans will prioritise the care and protection of the large items, including the Catalina Flying Boat, the Boulton and Watt rotative steam engine and Locomotive No. 1. The detail planning has not been finalised.

When these conservation plans are finalised, I will make these documents publicly available.
