SEVERE WEATHER

(1) What is the Government's plan to make the rail network in NSW more resilient to severe weather events?

Answer -

I am advised

The former Liberal-National government had 12 years to improve the resilience of the NSW rail network yet failed to make substantially improvements.

The NSW Government announced an independent review of Sydney Trains’ Rail Infrastructure and Systems on 6 April 2023. As outlined in the Terms of Reference, the Review will investigate governance and accountability, asset management and planning, reliability and resilience. This includes the ability of Sydney Trains to respond to incidents and events which interrupt, or have the potential to interrupt, the delivery of services to the public.

The Review Panel handed down its interim report to Government on 12 May 2023. The Government has accepted all 12 recommendations made in the report.

The Review Panel will undertake further detailed investigation during Phase Two before making its final recommendations to Government.
