ACCESSIBILITY OF ONLINE TRANSPORT TIMETABLES

(1) What measures are the Government taking to simplify online transport timetables to make them accessible for all commuters?

Answer -

I am advised

Customers can use the Trip planner or Departure board on transportnsw.info or the Opal Travel app to find train times.

The online timetables are fully accessible, meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA standards, designed and built with inclusion in mind. The online timetables are tested on multiple devices and browser/operating systems, including assisted technologies such as screen readers. Independent audits are conducted to ensure compliance is maintained.

The website can be used on any modern device phone, desktop, laptop, tablet and the app is available to download for free on the App Store or Google Play.

The Trip Planner allows customers to find out how to travel anywhere in NSW by public transport and compare it with walking, bike riding, driving or rideshare. Customers can plan from a station, stop, wharf, address, point of interest or suburb. It includes train, bus, ferry, light rail, on demand services and regional trains and coaches.

Customers can save trips (trip plans/departures) directly to the homescreen on their phone for one click planning for regular routes.

The NSW Government is keen to work with disability advocates and the broader sector on initiatives to improve accessibility of transport services for everyone, but particularly people with disabilities.
