Urgent Resourcing and 24-Hour Staffing of Gunnedah Police Station

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, We, the undersigned petitioners and members of the Gunnedah community, urgently call upon the New South Wales Government to address the growing safety concerns in our region. Despite a significant investment in upgrading the Gunnedah Police Station, it remains unstaffed after hours. This lack of 24-hour police presence - at a time when our region is experiencing a measurable increase in petty crime, vehicle theft, assault, break and enter, and armed incidents - leaves our community increasingly vulnerable and unsupported. Gunnedah Shire is a growing region and a critical regional hub. We deserve a policing model that reflects both our size and the risks we now face. The current limitations on police visibility, responsiveness, and local call-answering are unacceptable. We respectfully petition the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to: 1. Implement 24-hour on-site staffing at Gunnedah Police Station, ensuring officers are available to respond in real-time to overnight incidents. 2. Increase police resourcing in Gunnedah, including staffing levels, patrol capability, and crime prevention units. 3. Introduce a dedicated, locally-answered Gunnedah police phone line so that calls made to the station during emergencies or disturbances are answered and actioned by on-site officers - rather than being redirected to distant locations. Our town is not asking for special treatment - we are simply asking for a basic standard of policing that matches the scale of investment already made in our facilities and the urgency of need in our streets. .
