HERstory is a national photographic and oral history project by documentary photographer Carla Edwards, dedicated to recognising the service of Australian women in the armed forces. Through portrait photography and recorded conversations, the project captures the personal stories of women who served across the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force.
This exhibition at NSW Parliament House features twenty-two women with connections to New South Wales whose service spans the Second World War through to contemporary operations. Each portrait represents a life of commitment, resilience and contribution to Australia's defence community.
HERstory seeks to ensure that the experiences of women in uniform are visible in Australia's historical record. By bringing these faces and stories together, the project acknowledges the generations of servicewomen who helped shape the nation's military history.
This exhibition is being hosted by the Hon Greg Piper, Member for Lake Macquarie.
