To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
This petition from the citizens of the Dubbo electorate draws to the attention of the House that, on 9 June 2026, Transport for NSW announced a reduction in the speed limit on the Mitchell Highway between Dubbo and Wellington from 110 km/h to 100 km/h, citing the safety of all road users.
This section of the highway is a vital regional corridor, relied upon daily by thousands of local residents, tourists, and freight operators.
While the community supports measures that improve road safety, many residents believe that the most effective long-term solution is the construction of dedicated overtaking lanes, as previously committed to by the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government in the lead-up to the 2023 State Election.
We, the undersigned petitioners, therefor ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to:
1. Acknowledge that overtaking lanes provide safer opportunities for drivers to pass slower vehicles, reducing accident risk and improving traffic flow.
2. Commit to repairing the existing road surface and delivering the dedicated overtaking lanes as previously proposed.
3. Recognise that the delivery of these overtaking lanes would build upon the completed Mitchell Highway upgrades between Narromine and Dubbo, strengthening the overall safety and efficiency of the route.
