Introduction
This inquiry has been established to examine the current operations of the forensic division of the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT), including its approach to case management.
The inquiry will also consider the impact of recent legislative and policy changes on the work of the Tribunal.

TERMS OF REFERENCE
That the Committee on Law and Safety inquire into and report on the operation of the forensic division of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT), with particular regard to:
a) recent amendments to the Mental Health Act 2007 and the Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020
b) the implementation of the recommendations of the 2018 NSW Government review of the Mental Health Review Tribunal in respect of forensic patients
c) the MHRT's approach to case management of forensic patients, including its effectiveness in balancing patient treatment needs, victim support, and community safety
d) any other related matters.
