The exercise of the functions of the Lifetime Care and Support Authority - Fifth Review

BACKGROUND The Standing Committee on Law and Justice has an ongoing role to review the exercise of the functions of the Lifetime Care and Support Authority (LTCSA) of NSW. The LTCSA is the statutory authority responsible for the administration of the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme, which provides lifetime care and support to people severely injured in motor accidents in NSW. The LTCSA was established under the Motor Accidents (Lifetime Care and Support) Act 2006 on 1 July 2006. Section 11 of the Safety, Return to Work and Support Board Act 2012 provides that a committee of the Legislative Council is to be charged with the responsibility of supervising the exercise of the functions of the LTCSA. The Legislative Council first appointed the Standing Committee on Law and Justice to undertake this role on 30 May 2007 and has reappointed the Committee for the 55th Parliament. Prior to this review, the responsibility to supervise the exercise of the functions of the LTCSA was provided under section 68 the Motor Accidents (Lifetime Care and Support) Act 2006. Please note the terms of reference prevent the Committee from investigating individual participants or applications for participation in the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme. Hearings were held on 7 and 17 March 2014.
