Science and its Commercialisation in New South Wales

Introduction

On 3 July 2003 the Committee received from the Hon Frank Sartor MP, Minister for Energy and Utilities, Science and Medical Research, Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) and Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts, terms of reference for an inquiry into science and its commercialisation in New South Wales. The Committee will review existing scientific efforts and programs in NSW public sector organisations, opportunities for commercialising the results of scientific research, opportunities for NSW public sector administered programs in meeting policy objectives and the BioFirst program and the opportunities it provides for the commercialisation of research discoveries.

Terms of reference
The inquiry was referred to the Committee on 3 July 2003 by the Hon Frank Sartor MP, Minister for Energy and Utilities, Science and Medical Research, Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) and Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts That the Standing Committee on State Development inquire into and report on science and its commercialisation in New South Wales, and in particular review: a) existing scientific efforts and programs in NSW public sector organisations, b) the opportunities for commercialising the results of scientific research, c) the opportunities for NSW public sector administered programs in meeting policy objectives, the BioFirst program and the opportunities it provides for the commercialisation of research discoveries. The Committee resolved to report by 4 December 2003.

That the Standing Committee on State Development inquire into and report on science and its commercialisation in New South Wales, and in particular review: a) existing scientific efforts and programs in NSW public sector organisations, b) the opportunities for commercialising the results of scientific research, c) the opportunities for NSW public sector administered programs in meeting policy objectives, the BioFirst program and the opportunities it provides for the commercialisation of research discoveries. The Committee resolved to report by 4 December 2003.
