Vivid Sydney comes to NSW Parliament House

For the first time, eventgoers will be able to experience Vivid Ideas at Australia’s oldest Parliament as part of Vivid Sydney 2022.

NSW Parliament House will offer a dynamic program of public events, including conversations with and performances by some of Australia’s best-known comedians and a panel discussion that invites politicians to bare their souls.

Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly, Jonathan O’Dea MP, said that NSW Parliament House would provide an exciting, new venue for audiences to engage
with Vivid Sydney’s thought-provoking program.

“The Parliament of NSW is where ideas for our state are tested and discussed, and this historic building in the heart of Sydney is a wonderful setting for this fun,
entertaining and intelligent series of shows,” Mr O’Dea said.

“We look forward to welcoming audiences who can also enjoy the busy atmosphere on the evenings the parliament will be in session.”

The Vivid Ideas event series complements Vivid’s popular light installations in the Sydney CBD.

President of the NSW Legislative Council, Matthew Mason-Cox MLC, said that Vivid Sydney at Parliament House will have something for everyone.

“This year’s Vivid theme “The Soul of Sydney” is a tribute to this vibrant city and we are proud to bring these events to the public for the first time,” said Mr Mason-Cox. 

“What better place for Vivid Ideas than at NSW Parliament House, the home of democracy and robust debate?”

Vivid Ideas 2022 at NSW Parliament House includes:

• “The Bare Pit” on 31 May, in association with The Ethics Centre, will see a panel of MPs, journalists and commentators share their experiences and
  tackle the question, “What place does religion have in politics?”
• “The Even Greater Sydney Planning Committee” on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 June, a live rendition of the HG Nelson and James Valentine
  satirical ABC Radio podcast, formed when the duo realised what Sydney needed was one more body devoted to Sydney planning.
• “The Gospel According to Paul” on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 June, a hilarious theatrical take on former Prime Minister Paul Keating’s life by actor, writer, director and political satirist Jonathan Biggins.
