Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (solicitor). Arrived in Sydney as a boy in a ship of which father was a doctor. Father practised in Bathurst, Lambing Flat, Albury and Sale, where he died in 1865. Family returned to Albury where school was attended. Articled to Joseph Dwyer and admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales and Victoria in 1881. Spent 2-3 years with a leading Sydney firm then practised in Albury; in 1889 was senior partner in firm Wilkinson & Wilkinson. In 1889 was president of the Albury branch of the Australian Natives Association, vice president of Albury Mechanics Institute.
Military Service
First and only captain of Albury Reserve Corps, Volunteer Infantry in 1888. After reorganisation of the defence forces in 1889, commanded H. Company., 1st Regiment of Volunteer Infantry; When forces further developed under federal plan, commanded No. 4 battery, Australia Field Artillery and was later was a Colonel.
