Qualifications, occupations and interests
Pastoralist and mining entrepreneur. Educated at Dr Woolls school at Parramatta. Manager of father's property Guntawang, 4000 freehold acres on Cudgegong River near Mudgee in 1861. Inherited it on fathers death in 1862. Bred pedigree carriage horses, cattle, merino sheep and acquired other pastoral properties. In March 1872 became principal shareholder in Guntawang Freehold Gold Mining Company. First President of Gulgong Turf Club in 1871. Member of Union Club.
