Labourer and auctioneer agent. Arrived in New South Wales in 1858 as an apprentice. For many years worked as a labourer in the Newcastle District. Employed in road making, farming and general work. May have been a small farmer for a time. Became a small contractor and then for many years kept a jewellers shop in Newcastle. Became insolvent in 1889 and resigned from the Legislative Assembly. Became a salesman and auctioneer for G.T Edwards and Co., 1890; described as agent at death. President of Seaman's Union at Newcastle, in early 1870's. Member of local water and sewerage board at death.
