Qualifications, occupations and interests
Carpenter, publican, builder and contractor. Educated in a Church of England school at Liverpool and Captain Beveridges boarding school at Sydney. Apprenticed at 16 as a carpenter. Became a publican at Camperdown c.1848; At a later time became the trustee of Permanent Mutual Benefit Building and Investment Society; Director of Botany Railway Company and of Bowenfels Coal Mining and Copper Smelting Company. Trustee of National Park. Prolific contributor to press and author of many pamphlets.
