Educated to primary level; at fourteen was goldmining at Wyalong, then was with the smelting firm of Duncan and Moyes to c.1900; returned to goldmining at Junee; farmed near Warra, Queensland for two years; returned to New South Wales, mining; assistant town clerk in Forbes from c.1908 until 1915. Town clerk at Picton from 1915 until 1926, editor of the 'Picton Post' from 1923 until 1926, also was an estate agent; had an interest in mine at Burragarong; proprieter at Bargo Hotel from 1926 until 1927, of United States Hotel, Sussex Street, Sydney in 1928; town clerk at Molong from 1928 until 1932, dismissed; returned to goldmining at Reno near Gundagai; worked for defence Department during 1929 until 1945 war, retired; committee member at Picton Lakes.
