Educated at Cleveland Street public school; established Hocking Brothers, builders and contractors in 1898, became a large employer; director of Canterbury Brick Company., Master Builders' Insurance Company and Hocking Indestructible Water Heater Company; president of Canterbury Bankstown Master Builders Association from 1919 until 1928, delegate to Federated Master Builders' conventions; member of Empire Parliamentary Association.
