Preserving Link Road Forest

Petitioner: Ms Charmian Eckersley | Member: Higginson, Sue | No. of Signatories: 1,860 | Date closes: 14/08/2026 | Status: Open
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales state that Link Road Forest in western Newcastle and Lake Macquarie is an area of High Environmental Value (HEV). The forest is a core koala habitat, accommodating at least 17 threatened species, contains Aboriginal heritage sites and wildlife corridors, and stores extensive carbon. Permanent protection of Link Road Forest is vital for biodiversity, climate resilience, recreational use, and community health and wellbeing. The petitioners request that the House call on the NSW Government to acquire the 574 hectares of biodiverse land located at 144 Boundary Road, Wallsend, 35-35B Frederick Street, Glendale and 1 Glendon Crescent, Glendale in the Link Road Forest, and seek to have this highly biodiverse land included in the National Reserve system.
