2009 WHITE RIBBON DAY EVENTS

724 - SUPPORT FOR DEMENTIA SUFFERERS

That this House:

  1. Applauds the response shown by stakeholders at a meeting held to assist people with dementia.
  2. Recognises that the Myall Lakes electorate has the highest proportion of people aged over 65 in New South Wales and the second highest prevalence of people suffering from dementia.
  3. Notes that the rate of dementia in the Myall Lakes electorate is increasing.
  4. Congratulates the formation of a steering committee to examine how and what to do to help people with dementia.
  5. Notes that the steering committee will examine what is required for residents in the Forster and Tuncurry area and that information will be used to create dementia friendly towns in Taree and Wingham.
  6. Recognises the support provided by the Minister for Ageing and Minister for Disability Services for people living with dementia and their carers.
