Limit Building Heights to 20 Stories in Our Community at Macquarie Park

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders, petition the Government to implement a building height limit of 20 stories for all new developments within Macquarie Park in order to: 1. Preserve community character. 2. Limit overshadowing and maintain access to sunlight. 3. Protect individuals' visual and acoustic privacy. 4. Prevent overcrowding of infrastructure, roads, schools (including those planned and under construction) and public services such as the Macquarie University metro station and metro trains. 5. Reduce adverse transport impacts from the North-West Metro tunnel being undermined and additional traffic on Waterloo and Herring roads. 6. Limit construction under the north-west flight path approach to Sydney Airport's parallel runways. 7. Reduce the risk of adverse telecommunications impacts to optic fibres belonging to over 6 communications companies adjacent to the construction site and nearby data-centres. 8. Limit environmental impacts given taller buildings require more energy and resources. 9. Maintain skyline and views. 10. Maintain acceptable safety and emergency access and response times. We ask the Legislative Assembly to urge the Government to adopt a policy that restricts the height of all new buildings in the Macquarie Park area to no more than 20 stories. Allowing more buildings of ~60 stories would result in a density higher than the Sydney CBD. This measure will help maintain liveability, sustainability, and the character of our community. Should a precedent be established in Macquarie Park, there is nothing stopping developers elsewhere in Sydney seeking to replicate similar heights.
