Make Strzelecki Lookout safer

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, This petition of concerned residents of Newcastle and surrounding areas respectfully requests that the Legislative Assembly urge the NSW Government and Newcastle City Council to immediately install permanent barriers and signage to fully block all vehicle and pedestrian access to the cliff edge at Strzelecki Lookout, The Hill, Newcastle, prohibiting cars and people from approaching or going over it. Recent tragedies underscore the deadly risk, including the loss of my best friend who went off the cliff in 2024, a devastating incident in November 2025, and numerous close calls where vehicles and people have teetered perilously near the edge due to absent bollards, crisis signage, and surveillance. These heartbreaking events, amid ongoing community pleas, prove unrestricted access endangers lives at this scenic but lethal site. The undersigned petitioners ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to take swift action to prioritise lives over tourism, implement full closure measures, such as fencing and roadblocks and allocate funding to prevent further accidents.
