VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS OF THE NEW SOUTH WALES LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

9 LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON EMERGENCY SERVICES FUNDING REFORM

Mr RON HOENIG: I move:

(1)   That a Select Committee to be known as the Legislative Assembly Select Committee on Emergency Services Funding Reform be appointed.

(2)   That the Committee inquire into and report on the NSW emergency services funding reform replacement levy model options with particular reference to:

(a)     the levy design principles of cost recovery, equity, efficiency, simplicity, and sustainability; and

(b)     design parameters of levy concessions and transition arrangements.

(3)   The Committee shall consist of eight members, comprising:

(a)     three Government members, being Ms Trish Doyle, Mr David Mehan and Ms Charishma Kaliyanda;

(b)     three Opposition members; and

(c)     two crossbench members, being Adjunct Professor Tamara Smith and Ms Jacqui Scruby.

(4)   That the Opposition members be nominated in writing by the Opposition Whip to the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly by 31 March 2026.

(5)   Ms Jacqui Scruby shall be the Chair of the Committee.

(6)   The Committee have leave to make visits of inspection within the State of New South Wales and other States and Territories of Australia.

(7)   The Committee have leave to sit during the sitting or any adjournment of the House.

(8)   That at any meeting of the Committee four members shall constitute a quorum.

(9)   The Committee shall report to the House by 18 November 2026.
