Teacher professional development programs

The Education Section of the Parliament of New South Wales will be conducting a series of professional development days at Parliament House to support the professional development of teachers of Geography, History, Commerce, Legal Studies and Primary HSIE. Information for each course is listed below. There is no course fee, morning tea and lunch are provided. Schools will need to meet any teacher relief costs. Numbers are strictly limited to the first 40 responses for each date. Use of public transport is recommended, as parking is not available. All courses begin at 9:00am and finish at 3:00pm with Registration at 8:30am.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY HSIE TEACHERS:

Civics and Citizenship Playing Your Part: Professional Learning Workshop for Primary Executives;
Stage 3 HSIE Teachers; Teacher Librarians

Friday 1st April 2011

This course:
        • is about politics, democracy, government and citizenship in Australia
        • is conducted by the Education Section of the Parliament of NSW as part of the programs of the Curriculum Learning Innovation Centre (CLIC) NSW DET
        • identifies the civics and citizenship education in the HSIE K – 6 Syllabus;
        • demonstrates practical strategies for effective implementation of civics and citizenship education;
        • provides information and resources about the democratic process, system of government, Parliament of New South Wales, elections and civics and citizenship;
        • provides opportunities for participants to engage with online and print resources through participation in workshops with a focus on role plays, democratic process, elections, the media and environmental sustainability;
        • includes a visit to the parliamentary chambers and tour of Parliament House;
        • is suitable for beginning and experienced primary HSIE teachers and school librarians.
