Royal Commission on City Railway Extensions, 1897
The Royal Commission on City Railway Extensions was appointed to "inquire as to the expediency and best methods of extending the railway system of the Colony into the City of Sydney, or through the City, and to the waters of Port Jackson, for conveyance of passengers and goods". The Report, Proceedings and Minutes of Evidence were tabled on 3 June 1897 and ordered to be printed ('Parliamentary Papers' 1897, 4, 89). The members and secretary of the Royal Commission were also members and secretary of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works. These records were found with the records of that Committee. Royal Commission on Border Railways, 1915 - 1916
The Royal Commission on Border Railways was appointed to "inquire into the question of the expediency of constructing ... (certain) ... lines of border railways", and was a joint NSW-Victorian Commission comprised of the members of the NSW Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works and members of the Victorian Parliament (possibly members of the Victorian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways). The Report and Minutes of Evidence were tabled on 24 August 1916 and ordered to be printed ('Parliamentary Papers' 1916, 4, 631). Royal Commission into Pressure Tunnels, 1932 - 1933
In 1932 the Minister for Public Works appointed a Committee of Inquiry into matters connected with the construction of a pressure tunnel from Potts Point to Waterloo and related matters. The Secretary to the Committee was Arthur Hurley, who was also Secretary to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works which had recently become moribund. These papers were found amongst the records of the Public Works Committee. The Inquiry opened on 17 October 1932 and was made into a Royal Commission on 23 November 1932. The Royal Commission sat until 27 May 1933 and reported to Parliament on 22 June 1933. The Report, Proceedings and Evidence were printed in the 'Parliamentary Papers', 1933, 1, 581.
