Function

Parliamentary Security Services operates 24 hours a day from the control room at Parliament House. Its role is to ensure a safe and secure environment for Parliamentary Operations.

Officers carry out such vital duties as monitoring the electorate office security alarms, operating the building security systems, managing out of course events such as demonstrations, threats to Members and staff and ensuring the security of the Parliamentary Precinct.

The Department also provides access support to staff, managing access points to Parliament to ensure the security of the precinct, monitoring and controlling the CCTV systems, scanning items that arrive at the Parliament and advice and training on security matters for Members and Staff.
