Biography

Political Party Activity - 1986-present - Party Member, Australian Labor Party (NSW Branch). Current - Member (Secretary), ALP International Relations Policy Committee. Previously held - Member, ALP Health Policy Committee. Previously held - Member - ALP Community Welfare Policy Committee. Member - ALP Education Policy Committee.

Qualifications, Occupations and Interests - Prior to entering the NSW Legislative Council in February 2005 Greg was a full-time official of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association NSW Branch (Shop Assistants Union). He commenced with the union in 1986 and worked in a number of roles including branch secretary for nine years before entering Parliament. Greg is Government Whip in the Legislative Council and sits on seven Parliamentary Committees including Law and Justice, Social Issues, Independent Commission Against Corruption and Privileges. He is Duty MLC for the electorates of Manly, Hornsby, Port Stephens and Clarence. He is currently Secretary of the ALP NSW Branch’s International Relations Policy Committee and has served on a number of other policy committees including Health, Education, Employment and Industrial Relations and Community Welfare. Greg graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Economics (1983) and a Master of Industrial Relations (1986). He completed the Harvard Trade Union Program in 1992. His areas of policy interests include family, life issues, genetics and biotechnology, economic development, drugs, children and young people, public health, law and order, employment and workplace relations, media and culture, human rights, elder care, education, disability services, defence and international relations. He is President of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association NSW Branch and a member of the University of Notre Dame Australia Arts & Science ( Sydney) Advisory Board. Greg is married to Gaynor and they have three children, Matthew, Lucy and Joe. His sister Jane and her family, along with his parents Peter and Betty live in Western Australia.
