Australian Labor Party (ALP). Member of central executive from 1920 until 1921, 1923 until 1926, president of Central Women's conference in 1926; acted as a secretary to F.M Burke, stood against him as Lang Labor when he transferred allegiance from J.T Lang.

Housewife and secretary. Educated to state primary level; journeyed to Sydney in 1911 and lived thereafter in Newtown; active in community organisations and local government; presided at Cooma court in 1921; director of Picton Lakes TB Settlement; executive member of Women's Voluntary National Register from 1939 until 1940; trustee of Erskine Hospital and Newtown Police Boys Club; active worker for Methodist church.

Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)


Local Government Activity

Alderman at Newtown from 1929 until 1948. Mayor from 1938 until 1939, first woman Alderman in New South Wales and first woman Mayor in Australia; prominent in Mayors relief movement, Newtown, during depression.


Personal

Daughter of Charles Monro Gill, stage coach driver, and Frances Rebecca Gonson. Married Albert Edward Fowler in 1910 and had issue, 1 daughter. Funeral at Rookwood cemetery from Newtown Methodist church.
