Trained for Methodist ministry at Humecliffe College, Manchester; arrived in New South Wales c.1888, served in ministry in Newcastle district including at Greta; became a miner at Kurri Kurri, later at Dudley and Pelaw Main, Cessnock, where wife's family selected land; at Aberdare when elected to Parliament; official at Colliery Employees Federation from c.1907; Methodist lay preacher.
Personal
Son of Thomas Kearsley, contractor, and Elizabeth Paton. Married Betsy Wilkinson on 18 August 1898 and had issue, 1 daughter and 2 sons. Burial at Cessnock.
